Overview
The DMP-BD30 is the next generation High Definition 1080p Blu-ray Disc player. It is the first Blu-ray player to be introduced with Final Standard Profile, which adds a variety of new and enhanced features to the Blu-ray arena and one that separates the Panasonic Blu-ray player from the rest of the field. Also unique to the DMP-BD30 is the inclusion of an SD Memory Card slot for playback of High Definition content recorded in the AVCHD format. The SD slot also allows for viewing of digital still images recorded to an SD Memory Card.Final Standard Profile is an advanced function added to the Blu-ray standard, which opens the door to new functions such as Picture-in-Picture (which displays a second image in a sub window) and Audio Mixing (allows the consumer to switch the sound between the main and sub windows).The inclusion of a multi-function SD Card slot is another new addition to the Panasonic Blu-ray player. Coupled with the AVCHD codec, the DMP-BD30 allows for images recorded on a high capacity HD SD card to be outputted directly from the player’s HDMI terminal in their original 1080p form. To further benefit the user, the DMP-BD30 provides an AVCHD Direct Navigator function that makes it easy to search for particular scenes. The player can also play back JPEG still images on an SD card, such as those recorded with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera. The DMP-BD30 converts the images to 1920×1080 resolution, ideal for viewing on a1080p HD Plasma and output them through the HDMI terminal.Like its predecessor, the DMP-DB30 features the EZ-Sync HDAVI Control that allows the consumer to operate their Panasonic home theater system with one remote. With one touch of the EZ-Sync button, all the components turn on, the correct TV input is chosen, the TV’s built-in speakers are muted and the home theater starts playback.

Sylvania Blu-Ray DVD Player
Great price for a Blu-Ray DVD Player. This is our first blu-ray player so I don't know if it is indicative of blu-ray players in general, but it sure takes a long time to respond to commands. Press the "open" button and you wait and wait for the disk tray to come out. So long, that you're wondering if you pressed the button but eventually it does open. Otherwise, great value. .... Excellent Player
No problems here - seems to do a nice job upscaling regular DVDs and provides a great picture with BR discs. The included HDMI cable is a plus although good quality cables are only in the $5-6 range anyway. I got this when Amazon was offering a $100. discount if you bought 4 BR discs from a selected group, so it was a great deal. Load times slow, good value, decodes all audio
The unit was tested on a 42" Panasonic Plasma, and in conjunction with an Onkyo 605 Receiver.
The first test was load time. From power on to movie studio wallpaper the machine took 1:30 to power up and load-about 20 seconds more than my Panasonic BD30K.
The second test was with the Men in Black Blu-Ray. Picture and sound quality were excellent, and the movie played fine all the way through.

Decent bargain-priced Blu-ray player
EDITED 10/14/08 - It looks like the price has been reduced to $199 now, so this player is more attractive. It is a four-star unit at this price point. The review was written when the price was $279 and the price reduced the star rating. This is a very reasonable price for the player and I expect that it will suit many people. Recommended.

Sylvania has built an outstanding player!
Sylvania has produced a real winner in this Blu-Ray player! I hooked it up to a 42inch HDTV using the high speed HDMI cable that came with it (a big plus in itself). I connected the audio to my receiver using the coaxial digital output. I turned it on and waited a bit less than a minute for it to power up. I anxiously inserted my first blu-ray disk. It started playing perfectly a about 30 seconds later. The picture and sound are completely outstanding. This could not have been any easier!
